For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Context
John 3:16 is often memorized, but it is rarely slowed down.
This verse is spoken in the context of Jesus explaining what it means to be born again. He is not offering advice, motivation, or religion. He is revealing the cost of rescue.
God did not wait for humanity to improve, agree, or understand. He acted first. Love moved toward us while we were still separated from Him. The giving of His Son was not symbolic. It was substitutionary. A price was paid that humanity could never afford on its own.
This is the foundation of the gospel.

Reflection
It is easy to repeat this verse and miss how personal it is.
God did not love an idea of the world. He loved people. Real people. Broken people. Resistant people. People who could not save themselves.
If this verse is true, then love is not something we earn, and salvation is not something we achieve. It is something we receive. That truth changes how we see God, ourselves, and the way we live as disciples.
Love this deep should leave a mark.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for loving us when we could not love You first. Thank You for paying a price we could never pay and offering life we could never earn. Help us not just to know this verse, but to live in response to it. Let Your love shape our hearts, our obedience, and the way we reflect You to others. Amen.
